Forklift Parts in More Detail
There are many components which make up a forklift. The lift truck's major components consist of the frame of the truck, the engine components, the tilt cylinders, the overhead guard and the wheels. What's more, a lift truck has a variety of attachments. All the components that make up a forklift are all important as they work together to make the functions of the equipment possible. The following paragraphs describe in detail several of the lift truck components.
The Overhead Guard - this guard forms the forklift truck's metal roof. It sits over the cab area and protects the equipment operator while he or she is sitting and driving. The overhead guard makes sure that nothing falling from above onto the truck would harm the driver or damage the controls inside the cab. The overhead guard is integral to the frame assembly on some models.
The Mast - Mounted either to the forklift frame or the front axle, the mast is the vertical forklift component made of interlocking rails. The mast allows the forks to move up and down while providing lateral stability. The interlocking rails can either have bushings or bushings as guides. There are a couple of ways the mast can be operated: hydraulically by one or more hydraulic cylinders or chain operated with motive power provided by a hydraulic motor.
Lift Truck Carriage - the forks and various other types of attachments are mounted to the carriage. The carriage is attached to the mast directly to the hydraulic cylinder or it is attached by chains. To be able to enable the forks to be raised and lowered, the carriage can have either bushings or rollers to guide it in the interlocking mast rails.
Load Back Rest - While the carriage is raised to full height, there is a back rest made of metal that keeps a load from falling backwards. The back rest is either welded or bolted on to the carriage.
Lift Truck Attachments - There are various types of attachments that can be fixed directly to the forklifts carriage. Forks are the most common type of attachment. What's more, there are L-shaped members, rotators, rollers, pole handlers, roll clamps and and all that. These various types of attachments are helpful for transporting various types of loads.
